Mama Hope

Mama Hope is the story of a daughter who turned her mother’s simple acts of kindness into an extraordinary legacy of hope, dynamism, and success.

‘In 2006 Nyla Rodgers suffered the sudden loss of her mother, Stephanie Moore, to cancer. In an effort to heal from her loss, Nyla traveled to Kenya to meet a young man whose education her mother had sponsored since 2001. To her surprise, she was greeted by hundreds of others whom her mom had also helped. Nyla describes that day as the day that her work found her … and Mama Hope was born.’*

Mama Hope works with African based organizations to connect them with the resources required to transform their own communities.

Nyla and her team believe ‘that there are enough resources in the world for every human being to live healthy, happy lives. Mama Hope funds projects in the areas of agriculture and food security, water, health, education, shelter, women’s empowerment and the environment. The key to Mama Hope’s success is all the projects are managed by local communities to ensure sustainability.

Through Nyla’s strength, vision, and dedication Mama Hope has improved the lives of over 76,000 people in Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana and Uganda.

Robin-Lim Mark Ulysses

Every Mother Counts

‘Every Mother counts and health care is a human right’ said Robin Lim, CNN’s 2011 hero of the year.

In 1995, Robin Lim founded Bumi Sehat, a non-profit, village-based organization in Indonesia that offers free prenatal care, birthing services and medical aid.

“Every baby’s first breath on Earth could be one of peace and love. Every mother should be healthy and strong. Every birth could be safe and loving. But our world is not there yet,” Lim said during “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute.”

According to the United Nations Population Fund, three out of five women giving birth in South Asia do so without a skilled birth attendant on hand. This results in an incredibly high maternal and infant mortality rate.

Robin is passionate about and committed to reducing maternal and child morbidity and mortality. Her work in partnership with individuals and communities serves as an inspiration and example for women all over the world.
