The Transcendental Meditation Technique and Health
“The Transcendental Meditation technique has been shown to be the most effective health and wellness programme there is. Nothing we know of is as effective for promoting good health and reducing health-care utilization and medical expenses.”
–Dr. Kulreet Chaudry MD, neurologist and medical director of Wellspring Neurology at Scripps Memorial Hospital, San Diego
A large study of Blue Cross health insurance statistics in the USA tracked 2000 Transcendental Meditation technique practitioners for five years. The results showed 50% fewer doctors visits and a 56% reduction in hospital visits. For those over 40, the reduction in hospital visits was more than 70%. The study further found that hospitalization for those practising Transcendental Meditation was 87% less for heart disease, 55% less for cancer, and 73% less for respiratory problems. Read more…
A Healthier Heart
Published research confirms that the regular practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique reduces blood pressure, atherosclerosis, constriction of blood vessels, and thickening of coronary arteries. The daily practice of Transcendental Meditation also provides relief from stress by reducing hormones such as adrenaline, noradrenaline, and cortisol. The National Institutes of Health of the US government have granted over $20 million to study the effects of Transcendental Meditation on the prevention and treatment of heart disease, hypertension, and stroke.

Optimizing Brain Functioning
The Transcendental Meditation technique allows the mind to settle down to experience a state of inner calm and coherence during which the brain shifts to a markedly more coherent style of functioning. With regular daily practice of Transcendental Meditation, research indicates a steady and significant development of the brain’s potential.
Brain wave coherence and integration have been correlated with higher moral reasoning, emotional stability, decreased anxiety, and improvements in memory, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. The change in brain functioning also affects the rest of the physiology, reducing high blood pressure, strengthening the heart, and improving health overall.
